Investing in Local Education: The Don & Low Scholarship

As one of Forfar’s eldest and most established companies, Don & Low has been a prominent figure within the local community since it was founded in 1792.

With links to Dundee, a city now working towards cultivating its image to become the ‘City of Design and Culture’, the local area is thriving from new business and enthusiastic individuals who want to study at the well-known universities.

Having already worked with Abertay University in the past to provide MSc International Management and MSc International Human Resource Management students with the ‘Don & Low Prize’, the company has more recently been working with 3rd year Marketing & Business students to offer live business assessments. These combined opportunities help students understand the requirements of real business environments and markets, with a predominantly Scottish manufacturing company – providing insight into an industry which they might never have previously considered when developing their career.

Aimed at broadening student’s horizons when they graduate, the ‘Don & Low Prize’ and live business assessments provide additional experience alongside their studies to enhance future employment opportunities.

Due to the long-standing relationship between Don & Low and the university, it seemed logical to develop the partnership further – working with Abertay to create a unique scholarship opportunity within the Dundee Business School, providing additional support to students throughout their course and educational career. The scholarship award will be donated to the university for the 2017/18 academic year and be made available to undergraduate students studying the BA (Hons) Marketing & Business Course, to offer additional support throughout their final year at Abertay University.

The scholarship opportunity is open to both UK and International students at Abertay who are considered academically bright, driven, ambitious and interested to work in the marketing and business sector after graduation. As part of the scholarship, the awardee will also take part in a work placement at Don & Low Ltd. (Newfordpark House) during their second semester

We’re absolutely thrilled to be able to support a local university such as Abertay and we look forward to working with Abertay University throughout the 2017/18 academic year.
